Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and a key constituent (structural molecule) of tissue, skin, joints, bones, blood vessels, organs and more. The word “collagen” is derived from kolla, the Greek word for glue. Collagen is literally the substance that binds us together. It forms a mesh-like supportive framework in the body that provides shape, strength and flexibility. Highly prized for its nutritional and amino acid profile, collagen is uniquely abundant in glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. In fact, Collagen is the only known source of hydroxyproline, which is believed to help stimulate the body’s own production of collagen.
During our youth, collagen supports strong, thick hair and helps prevent wrinkles from forming. In our early 20's, collagen begins to diminish by about 1% per year. By the age of 30, the signs of collagen reduction begin to become visible. Skin wrinkles when collagen is not present in the correct concentration; it becomes too 'elastic' (I.E. Not enough support and structure). collagen reduction can be felt too. The cartilage in our joints begin to wear at a greater rate. Youtheory has added select vitamins and minerals to enhance your experience. Supplementing your diet with collagen is similar to supplying the construction materials to build back what nature erodes away.
BENEFITS
1. Skin Health & Aging Support
Marine collagen is rich in Type I collagen peptides, which research suggests can help improve skin elasticity, hydration, and smoothness, potentially reducing the look of fine lines and promoting a more youthful complexion. Marine collagen’s smaller peptides may be absorbed efficiently by the body compared with other collagen sources.
2. Stronger Hair & Nails
The amino acids in marine collagen contribute to keratin formation, which can support stronger hair and nails, possibly reducing brittleness and promoting growth when taken consistently.
3. Joint & Connective Tissue Support
Collagen is a major structural protein in cartilage and connective tissues. Supplementing with marine collagen can help nourish joints and support mobility, and some people report decreased joint discomfort with regular use.
4. Enhanced Protein Intake
Each serving typically provides a good dose of protein which helps support overall dietary protein needs, useful for muscle maintenance, recovery, and satiety.
5. Digestive & Gut Health Support
Some evidence suggests glycine (a key amino acid in marine collagen) help support the gut lining and digestion, though impacts can vary per person.
6. Bone & Vascular Support
Collagen contributes to the structure of bones and blood vessels. Regular intake supports bone strength and the integrity of vascular tissues as part of a balanced diet.
7. Higher Bioavailability
Marine collagen peptides tend to be smaller and more bioavailable vs. some other collagen types, meaning your body may absorb and use them more effectively.
